NEW YORK CITY DISTRICT COUNCIL LABOR TECHNICAL COLLEGE

INSTRUCTOR

The New York City District Council Labor Technical College is seeking a fulltime instructor with a minimum of 15 years’ work experience with knowledge of means and materials used by commercial carpenters in New York City.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students in subject areas such as tool and equipment maintenance, codes and regulations and safety precautions related to carpentry.
  • Maintain inventory and equipment records.
  • Plan and supervise work of students, individually or in small groups and in shop; Observe trainees and answer trainee questions.
  • Assure that all students abide by the guidelines, policies and process as set by the Labor Technical College.
  • Test and evaluate achievement of student in technical knowledge and trade skills.
  • Maintain a daily log of activities, classroom instruction and progress of projects. Schedule, and update a list of projects to be completed.
  • Maintain attendance records.
  • Organize program of practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in trade, and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology.
  • Recommend or suggest changes for the improvement of the training program.
  • Willing and able to be cross trained in all areas in commercial building and health and safety certifications.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of training theory and its practical application.
  • Skilled in prioritizing and assigning work; preparing reports; adapting instruction to meet individual needs.
  • Strong ability to speak in public.
  • Instructing journey level members, implementing course material, and maintaining cohesive multi-level group dynamics.
  • Prior trade instruction is a plus.
  • Must be willing to attend UBC training classes in Las Vegas.
